Congratulations to Windrush, winners of the KBIS 4-Goal Super League Championship. This super-competitive, national tournament, organised by the Hurlingham Polo Association, concluded at Guards Polo Club. The impressive Windrush team, winners of the Central region, maintained their unbeaten status to defeat Canonbury 11-5 in the final.
Harry Earnshaw’s Windrush team put the work in during the first two chukkas, riding off at half-time with a remarkable 8-1 advantage. Every member of the team scored in the first chukka and Michael Henderson scored a hat-trick in the second. Siblings Celestino and Florencio Merlos were equally impressive. The 12-year-old Florencio was later rewarded with the Most Valuable Player prize at the post-match presentations. Canonbury battled back in the second half, with some impressive play from Harold Hodges, including an impressive, angled shot to goal, but Windrush’s supremacy was never threatened.
The KBIS Best Playing Pony went to Florencio Merlos who had been playing Michael Henderson’s home-bred Espuelita in this final. The Retraining of Racehorses pony prize went to Harold Hodge’s Kissed By Ice. This award was sponsored by Emerson & Watson.
The format of this competition, which attracted around 30 teams in 2025, was run on a regional league structure with four zones organised geographically. Three clubs hosted tournaments in each zone and points were awarded to teams based on their results. The winning team from each zone then qualified for the knockout semi-finals, which were also played at Guards Polo Club.
