Lord Patrick Beresford - Farewell to a Guards Polo Club legend 19th March 2020

We are sad to announce the death of our Vice President Lord Patrick Beresford. He died on 18 March 2020 aged 85 following a period of ill health.

Lord Patrick was the Club’s first Polo Manager – as a young Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals in 1955 – and remained a passionate supporter of the Club until his death. He played alongside our President, winning the Gold Cup at Cowdray with the Windsor Park team, represented England in several matches and won many other prestigious trophies including the Queen’s, Royal Windsor and Warwickshire Cups.

Following his retirement from the saddle he took a keen interest in the polo careers of his great-nephews, the Earl of Tyrone and Tommy Beresford. Away from polo Lord Patrick was an experienced race rider and was the chef d’equipe of the British eventing team from 1985 – 1992.

We will be publishing a full tribute in the Guards Yearbook 2020 and will update you of all funeral and memorial service details as and when they are available.
