Guards Polo Club News Back
HM The King becomes Club President 20th May 2024

Our Chairman, Lieutenant Colonel Sean O’Dwyer, is delighted to announce that Buckingham Palace has informed him that His Majesty The King has graciously accepted the Presidency of Guards Polo Club. The Club is deeply honoured and proud that His Majesty will continue the tradition of royal support for this Club and take on the role that was previously held by his father, HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, for 66 years. The timing of this announcement could not be more pertinent, coming just days before the start of the Club’s leading tournament, the Cartier Queen’s Cup. His Majesty has his name engraved on this trophy when playing as The Prince of Wales, winning with the Les Diables Bleus team in 1986. The Chairman has already written a personal note of thanks to His Majesty’s Private Secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, and we look forward to welcoming His Majesty to the Club in the future.
