Twelve Oaks secured the 12-goal Phoenician Cup at Guards Polo Club last Sunday, after a close game against Mo Sheikh's BHC Polo. Martin Davison's Twelve Oaks started the four-chukka match in a dominant position, leading 3-1 at the the end of the first. Howver BHC came back into the game in the second, thanks to goals from Hernan Muzzio and Juracy Santos, levelling the scores to 4-4 at half-time. This was the same story in the third, with both sides scoring twice to keep the scoreaboard even once more.
So will all to play for in the fourth and final chukka. Pete Webb was determined to go home a winner and produced two goals for Twelve Oaks, to only one in reply from BHC. This one goal difference was all that was needed and when the timekeeper blew his whistle for the last time it was Twelve Oaks who had the advantage and won the match. Martin Davison stepped forward to receive the trophy from Eddie Arida, a life playing member of Guards Polo Club and sponsor of this trophy since it was first played for more than 30 years ago.
In the subsidiary match, which followed this final, Kassem Shafi's Shalimar defeated Max Gottschalk's Jax Coco 5-4 in another close game.
