A really close game for the eight-goal Town & County Cup saw victory for Kassem Shafi's Shalimar. This win denied Jonathan Munro Ford from collecting a double at the weekend as the following day he won the 12-goal Duke of Wellington Trophy with his Black Eagles team.
in this final, played on The Duke's Ground, the Black Eagles dominated the first chukka, scoring two goals to none in reply from Shalimar. The latter had more success in the second, scoring three goals, but a further three from the black shirted Eagles saw them claim a 5-3 lead at half-time.
The tables were turned in the second half though, with Shalimar finding the flags three times in the third, to none in reply from the Black Eagles. This allowed Shalimar, featuring the talented Antinori brothers, to take the lead for the first time in the game. However with the score reading 6-5 at the start of the fourth and final chukka there was still, of course, all to play for. Although with both teams scoring twice in the final seven minutes, it was Shalimar that won the day and the impressive samovar that is the beautiful Town & County Cup.
The lovely silver jug for the subsidiary final was presented to Mo Sheikh after his BHC Polo defeated Los Dientes Cats 9-7. Los Dientes were without their patron Matthew Tooth and his place was taken in this final by Mark Hayden Kellard.
