Nick Clarke’s Salkeld (rec 1 goal on handicap) defeated Sumaya 14-11 after an exciting League Three game at Coworth Park this afternoon. Sumaya were leading 3-2 at the end of the first after a double from Javier Novillo Astrada plus another from Matias Vial. James Beim put one on the boards for Salkeld before the first bell rang but this first chukka belonged to the red shirts of Sumaya. Beim and his England team-mate Luke Tomlinson turned things around in the second though, taking Salkeld’s score to 5 at the end of this chukka, at the same time as Sumaya failed to score at all. Salkeld continued to dominate the match in the third, with goals from Beim and Jose Donoso, while Sumaya’s Vial was the only scorer for Ahmad Aboughazale’s team. This gave Salkeld a commanding 8-4 lead going into half-time and an advantage they never relinquished.
The fourth saw two goals apiece for each team, but then three goals in quite quick succession for Salkeld in the fifth confirmed Nick Clarke’s team’s dominance in this match and it was all Sumaya could do to keep within reach. Despite three further goals from Vial and Facundo Sola in the final chukka , to only one in reply from Beim, the damage had already been inflicted earlier in the game and Salkeld join El Remanso at the top League Three.
