Clive Reid's team started the season with a victory at Guards and closed it with one too

AFB captured the popular, yet fun Chairman's Tournament on the last day of Guards Polo Club's season. Clive Reid's team narrowly defeated Alan Morello's Los Borrachos's squad 8-7 in an exciting, but friendly game. The young Karim Sheikh, fresh from his success in the Audi Pony Club Championships the previous month, was in action for Los Borrachos and was named Most Valuable Player.

Eight teams entered this competition, which is renowned for its camaraderie among all the teams. This was especially apparent in one of the sub sub finals between Allegro and Carisbrooke. After four chukkas the scores were level at 4 goals apiece and the patrons - John McGrath and Jayne Rumsey - agreed to draw and share the wooden spoon.  The other sub sub final went to Christian Langaard's Los Vikingos, who defeated the Pidgleys' JCC team 6-4.5.  The subsidiary final itself was a comprehensive 5-1 win for Alan Fall and Martina Lewis's Mad Dogs/Newton Heath over Brian Stein's Ockholt.

The Polo Manager's Cup which runs concurrently with this competition, saw a victory for Jonathan Munro Ford's Black Eagles. They defeated Ali Thomas's Ali Cats 6-5.
